Objective

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has established the National Drug Abuse Treatment (NDAT) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) to enhance the delivery of scientifically based treatments to drug abuse patients.

CTN objectives include:

Conducting studies of behavioral, pharmacological, and integrated behavioral and pharmacological treatment interventions of therapeutic effect in rigorous, multi-site clinical trials to determine effectiveness across a broad range of community-based treatment settings and diversified patient populations; and
Ensuring the transfer of research results to physicians, clinicians, providers, and patients.

The Data and Statistics Center 2 (DSC 2), managed by The EMMES Corporation, provides resources to support the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) in its general operations and in the conduct of multisite clinical trials. The major responsibilities of the center’s staff are to (1) establish systems for data management, (2) design and perform statistical analyses, (3) review and monitor the quality of data, (4) monitor trial progress, (5) prepare reports for the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), (6) assist in protocol development, (7) participate in relevant committees, and (8) provide expert consultation and support.
