Food and Waterborne Diseases Integrated Research Network (FWDIRN)
The Food and Waterborne Diseases Integrated Research Network (FWD IRN) facilitates the integration of research programs to develop products to rapidly identify, prevent, treat, and diagnose food and waterborne diseases that threaten public health.
The FWD IRN addresses priority research and product development needs for food and waterborne pathogens and includes capability to: develop and evaluate vaccines, therapeutics, and rapid detection methods; integrate human mucosal immunity with clinical research; and define the ecology and microbiology of food and waterborne zoonoses as well as drug-resistant pathogens.
The FWD IRN develops and implements phase I clinical protocols and has developed an emergency response capability to assist in the event of a public health threat.
